Ms. Bundles discussed her biography On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker, published by Scribner. The author is the great-great granddaughter of C. J. Walker, an African-American entrepreneur and philanthropist. The book chronicles Mrs. Walker’s life and accomplishments--including her childhood as the orphaned daughter of slaves and her rise to the top of an international hair care empire. In her talk, Ms. Bundles described the circumstances of Mrs. Walker’s life, and shows photographs included in the book. After her presentation, Ms. Bundles answered questions from members of the audience. close
