Mr. Ridley, author of Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters, published by HarperCollins, and Mr. Baltimore held an on-stage conversation. They discussed current genetic research and its implications. This week, two reports were released on the sequencing of the human genome, the first comprehensive analyses of the human genetic code. The findings of the publicly-funded Human Genome Project were published in the February 15 issue of Nature magazine and the findings of Celera Genomics, a private company in Rockville, Maryland were published in the February 16 issue of Science magazine. Mr. Ridley and Mr. Baltimore discussed the influence of genes on anatomy and behavior. They also talked about genetic similarities between humans and other species. They responded to audience members' questions. close
