Four memoir writers read from their memoirs and then participated in a moderated discussion about the experience of writing their personal stories. They talked about defying family silences, writing about relatives, and coming to terms with painful memories. The also answered questions from members of the audience.
Lois Gould is a novelist whose memoir Mommy Dressing: A Love Story, After a Fashion, published by Anchor Books, is about her mother who was a pioneering American fashion designer and reluctant single mother.

Charles Marsh wrote The Last Days: A Son’s Story of Sin and Segregation at the Dawn of a New South, published by Basic Books. This memoir is about a high-profile murder trial, a family caught between two worlds and the remorse the author feels for having a father who was a minister who did not fight the Ku Klux Klan in 1967 Mississippi.
