Mr. Murray talked about the book he co-wrote with Joel Schwartz and S. Robert Lichter It Ain’t Necessarily So: How Media Make and Unmake the Scientific Picture of Reality, published by Rowman and Littlefield Publishers. The book addresses the issue of how media can alter scientific and statistical studies in order to sensationalize the results. During the presentation Mr. Murray addressed a wide array of topics and how the media covers them, including television’s Xena Warrior Princess, breast cancer, AIDS, and Erin Brockovich. After the presentation, Mr. Murray answered questions from members of the audience. close
