Mr. Miller spoke about separating historical fact from fiction concerning the Civil War and the challenges of editing personal papers. Mr. Miller used the papers of General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson’s topographer, Jedidiah Hotchkiss, to attempt to gain details about the troops of the era from a firsthand point of view. His book Mapping for Stonewall: The Civil War Service of Jed Hotchkiss, published by Elliott & Clark Publishing, won the annual Fletcher Pratt Award for the best nonfiction book on Civil War History. After the presentation Mr. Miller answered questions from members of the audience. close
