Professor Henry talked about his book, Pearl’s Secret: A Black Man’s Search for His White Family, published by University of California Press. The book describes his personal history and the events that caused him to seek out the white side of his family, stemming from a relationship that his white ancestor had with a freed slave woman after the Civil War. He described meeting the southern, white members of his family and the impact their relations had both on his pride in being a black man and his thoughts about racial relations in America. Professor Henry is a former correspondent for the Washington Post. After his remarks he answered audience questions. close
