Mr. Rosner and Mr. Tubach discuss their book An Uncommon Friendship: From Opposite Sides of the Holocaust, published by University of California Press, and the process involved in writing it. Mr. Rosner is a Hungarian Jew who survived the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, before eventually being adopted by an American soldier and moving to the United States. Mr. Tubach was the son of a German army soldier and member of the the Nazi Youth Movement. The two men developed an unlikely friendship when they met in 1983 after learning that their wives were high school classmates and friends. The authors discuss their respective situations when first arriving in America and attempting to get an education.
