Mr. Jepsen talked about his book, My Sisters Telegraphic: Women in the Telegraph Office 1846-1950, published by Ohio University Press. The book is about women telegraph operators from the mid 1800s to the mid 1900s and explains that women who entered the field competed against men, at times got equal pay, and sometimes moved into management and senior technical positions. He also discussed the role that these women played in the telegraphic industry and how their work relates to that of women in modern technical fields. The author took questions toward the end of the program. close
