Charles Gallenkamp talked about his book, Dragon Hunter: Roy Chapman Andrews and the Central Asiatic Expeditions, published by Viking. Mr. Andrews, an expert on Asian mammals, an entrepreneur, and a socialite, cultivated friendships with such celebrities as Babe Ruth, Amelia Earhart, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Will Rogers and others. Mr. Andrews conducted expeditions to Central Asia between 1922-1930, which were financed by J.P. Morgan, Jr., John Rockefeller and others, under the auspices of the American Museum of Natural History. Mr. Gallenkamp said Mr. Andrew’s five expeditions to such places as the Gobi Desert and parts of Mongolia produced many new scientific finds such as prehistoric dinosaur bones, numerous fossils and dinosaur eggs, and signified the last of the golden age of explorations. He took questions from audience members after his prepared remarks. close
