Mr. Singer discussed his book Pushing Time Away: My Grandfather and the Tragedy of Jewish Vienna, published by Ecco. The book is a biography of Mr. Singer’s grandfather David Oppenheim, a classical scholar, a member of Sigmund Freud’s inner circle, and a close friend of the psychoanalyst Alfred Adler when early twentieth century Vienna was considered the center of European culture and ideas. The book also depicts the intellectual and personal battles that dominated the early days of psychoanalysis. Mr. Oppenheim died in a concentration camp in 1943, three years before Mr. Singer was born. He was able to reconstruct his grandfather’s life from recently discovered original letters and writings. close
