The Santa Barbara Mission was one of 21 missions built on the California coast by Spanish and Mexican Franciscan missionaries between 1769 and 1823. Ms. Foss described the history of the Santa Barbara Mission, saying that the local indigenous Indians helped build the structure that was intended for converting the Indians to Christianity. close
