Saif Abbas Abdulla spoke about the effects of the Iraqi invasion of his country, Kuwait. He described the control of Kuwait’s borders as “a new iron curtain.” The media blackout over information on Kuwait was contrasted with Saddam Hussein’s media appearances, which he called “the bad guy making the news.” The death toll of Kuwaiti citizens, as well as the large numbers removed to prisoner of war camps was explained. Mr. Abdulla said that Kuwait’s response has been commendable. The people have joined together in a strong resistance movement of civil disobedience. Mr. Abdulla’s remarks were followed by questions from the audience of local high school students. close
