As part of the society’s thirtieth annual conference, Ms. Lamb, who is also vice president of Random House’s Children’s Trade Book Group, talked about the role of the editor in the writing process. She suggested that the relationship between author and editor is a collaborative one and believes the editor’s job is to understand the author’s vision without influencing it. In addition, the editor should consider the work from the point of view of the intended audience. Ms. Lamb described the editor’s job as dependent on the author, including the roles of motivator and therapist. close
