The committee heard testimony on issues relating to military personnel serving in the Middle East who are parents of dependent children in the United States. Rep. Boxer, author of a bill designed to keep at least one of a dependent child’s parents out of combat areas in a military conflict, took questions from committee members on the implications of the bill. Representatives of the branches of the U.S. armed forces discussed and were questioned on the implications of a bill that would discriminate in the favor of military personnel with dependents. The committee then heard testimony from defense analysts on the effect such a bill may have upon the U.S. armed forces. close
