Hugh Thomson discussed his book The White Rock: An Exploration of the Inca Heartland, published by Overlook Press. He showed slides and described his successful 1982 expedition to “re-discover” Llactapata, the “lost city of the Incas,” and a second trip 17 years later, to the last Inca stronghold in the Amazon basin, Vilcabamba. Mr. Thomson’s narrative included a history of the Inca people and their culture, and accounts of his own discoveries. He also related stories about the famous explorers who preceded him, including Hiram Bingham, who discovered the ancient site of Machu Picchu in the Andean Mountains. He also answered questions from audience members. close
