Mr. Richie talked about his book The Donald Richie Reader: 50 Years of Writing on Japan, published by Stonebridge Press. The author read one of his essays that analyzes one hundred years of anthropological and sociological theories concerning western perceptions of Japanese culture. The book is a compilation of his writings on Japan and includes excerpts from his critical work on film and from his unpublished private journal, a selection of his fiction, and discourses on facial expressions, tattoos and Disneyland. Following his remarks he answered questions from members of the audience.
Mr. Richie has lived in Japan for over forty-five years. He is a film critic and author and has directed over 25 short films. close
