Mr. Perry talked about his book Myths and Realities of American Slavery: The True History of Slavery in America, published by Pelican Publishing Company, and discussed what led him to write the book. He argued that slavery was not as integral a part of the reason behind the Civil War as history leads people to believe. Mr. Perry wrote that the Confederacy went to war seeking independence while the Union fought to keep the country together. The book included facts and figures about slavery, excerpts from old interviews with former slaves, and includes a segment on the Civil War and slavery. Following his remarks he answered questions from members of the audience. close
