Justice Kennedy developed the program that he called the nation’s first “Dialogue on Freedom” to help schoolchildren understand the values of a
democratic society in light of the September 11 attacks. Justice Kennedy and the American Bar Association hoped the event would launch a broad give-and-take among students, parents, lawyers and judges around the country. close
