After meeting together in the White House, President George HW Bush and French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas spoke to reporters during a photo opportunity on the end of the Persian Gulf war. The cease-fire effectively ending offensive combat operations in the war had been ordered by President Bush to take place at midnight, E.S.T. on February 28. President Bush thanked France for participating in the Persian Gulf war as one of the coalition forces involved in enforcing the U.N. resolution. Minister Dumas looked forward to building peace in the Middle East region. close
