Chancellor Schroeder addressed the Bundestag in
Berlin. He discussed a German plan for peace in the Middle East that
includes sending German troops to the region as a peacekeeping force. Mr.
Schroeder is followed by Edmund Stoiber, the Christian Social Union Party
Leader, who opposes the plan.
Edmund Stoiber is also the Prime Minister of Bavaria and is running
against Chancellor Schroeder as the CDU/CSU candidate. The German election
is scheduled for September 22, 2002. close
