Recently an Armed Services Edition of War Letters: Extraordinary Correspondence from American Wars was published by Washington Square Press and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. To celebrate this publication, the Library of Congress hosted a reading of selected letters from the book by seven dignitaries. This book, edited by Mr. Carroll, includes two hundred letters written by soldiers in every major U.S. war since the Civil War.

Editor Carroll explained the reintroduction of Armed Services Editions, which last appeared in 1947. They are pocket-sized reprints of books that are made available at no cost to the men and women serving in the U.S. military. From 1943 to 1947, more than 1,300 titles were published. close
