Senators Chris Dodd (D-Connecticut), Barbara Boxer (D-California) and Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) spoke to reporters about U.S. policy toward Cuba, Former President Carter’s recent trip to the island, and President Bush’s announcement on Cuba policy earlier in the day. They said they supported more open trade with Cuba as a means to fostering democracy and criticized the administrations plan as perpetuating the status quo. They also announced hearings into policy toward Cuba. Following their remarks they answered questions from the reporters. close
