Author David Wetzel talked about German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and French President Napoleon III, the two principals in the events that led to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. He discussed the background and personality of each player and assessed the impact of these human dimensions on the conflict. Mr. Wetzel also talked about his reasons for writing his book, A Duel of Giants: Bismarck, Napoleon III, and the Origins of the Franco-Prussian War, published by the University of Wisconsin Press, and the overall importance of the war.
