Writer Mary Higgins Clark discussed her biographical novel, Mount Vernon Love Story. The novel, which concentrates on Washington’s personal life, was published by Simon and Schuster. Based on historical research, the book uses Washington’s retirement from to Mount Vernon as the basis for exploring the relationship of the first president and his spouse, Martha ‘Patsy’ Custis. Mount Vernon Love Story, Ms. Clark’s first book, was originally published in 1969 under the title Aspire to the Heavens, which was the family motto of George Washington’s mother. Its recent discovery by a Washington family descendent led to its reissue under the new title. History Channel journalist Roger Mudd hosted the event. close
