Mr. Carter talked about his book, Power Lines: Two Years on South Africa’s Borders, published by National Geographic Books, about the time he spent there as a Peace Corps volunteer. While in South Africa, Mr. Carter stayed with a family on the rural border near Swaziland. He said his ability to speak Zulu and Siswati enabled him to travel more freely among blacks and whites in South Africa, and to befriend both peoples more easily. After sharing stories about his time in Africa, Mr. Carter answered questions from members of the audience. close
