The committee heard testimony on the reorganization of the U.S. intelligence community. The nation’s intelligence “community” was originally organized shortly after World War II, and concerns are rising that the U.S.' intelligence gathering system may be out of date for a post Cold War world. Admiral Inman discussed the roles of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency in the resolution of crises. He also delineated the areas in which the operations of the intelligence community must change in order to supply future leaders with quick and reliable intelligence information. Gen. Odom said the U.S. government must formulate a paradigm for a national intelligence network in which intelligence resources may be utilized most efficiently when they are needed.
