Ms. Hill testified about intelligence gathering and terrorist threats prior to

the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S. After hearing from families of victims (see 172703-2), the committee spent the rest of the day hearing from the staff director. Ms. Hill said that there were several indications that the al-Qaida network intended to use airplanes in an attack and that they were intent on attacking within the United States. She also said that CIA Director George Tenent had called for a “war” against Osama bin Laden, but that his call did not reach field operatives. close
