Mr. Lankford discussed his book, Richmond Burning: The Last Days of the Confederate Capitol, published by Viking. In it, he reconstructs the final moments in Richmond before the collapse of the Confederacy. In the last days of the Civil War, advancing Union soldiers found a large portion of Richmond was burning. The author makes a case for why he believes that much of the fire spread from what was originally just materials of war being set on fire and allowed to burn uncontrolled. After the presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
