Mr. D’Souza discussed his book Letters to a Young Conservative, published by Basic Books. According to Mr. D’Souza, the book is a survival guide for youthful conservatives who exist in liberal environments. He feels that fledgling conservatives must examine basic liberal assumptions in order to confirm their own beliefs. Mr. D’Souza suggests that the conservative philosophy does not simply advocate “family values” or patriotism, but is a philosophy based on natural rights and a belief in universal moral truths. He goes on to explain several topics from that point of view. These topics include how Affirmative Action hurts blacks, fighting political correctness and why government is the problem. A question and answer period follows Mr. D’Souza’s presentation. close
