Mr. Carlebach is the author of Working Stiffs: Occupational Portraits in the Age of Tintypes, published by Smithsonian Institution Press. The book examines the historical significance of tintypes - a cheap photograph that was popular among laborers and their families during the late 1800s. His presentation included a slide show of photographs from the book. Ms. Ehrenreich is the author of Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America, published by Owl Books. Her work sheds light on the precarious lives led by the invisible workforce that fuels the service economy. close
