This week Road to the White House follows the campaign trail with Senator John Edwards of North Carolina and his wife Elizabeth Edwards. Senator Edwards announced the formation of a committee to explore a bid for the Democratic nomination for President on January 2, 2003. Elected in 1998, he is in his first term in the U.S. Senate.

On Saturday February 1, 2003 Mrs. Edwards made her first solo campaign trip to New Hampshire. She spoke to local Democrats at two private house parties in Concord and Manchester, New Hampshire.

Carolina constituents and their guests visiting Washington D.C. every week while the Senate is in session. On Thursday, February 6, 2003, in the Dirksen Senate Office Building he held his first “Tar Heel Thursday” since declaring his Presidential candidacy. close
