Mr. Boucher spoke to reporters in the State Department on events of concern to the Department of State, including aid to the Kurdish refugees fleeing Iraq. He announced that over $250 million in aid had been pledged by the world community to help the refugees, and an emergency response team had been organized to travel to Iraq to provide needed medical care. Refugees entering Iran were being cared for by the Iranian Red Crescent Society. He also discussed Soviet President Gorbachev’s moratorium on labor strikes and the “anti-crisis legislation” introduced by the Soviet president to the leaders of Soviet republics. close
