Senator Jim Jeffords discussed his memoir An Independent Man: Adventures of a Public Servant, published by Simon and Schuster. It is the story of his Vermont childhood, his career in the Navy, and his life in politics. In the book Senator Jeffords traces his history with the Republican Party, explains his growing differences with its leadership over healthcare, education and President Clinton’s impeachment, and the reasons behind his resignation from the GOP. The Senator and his wife spoke briefly and then answered questions from members of the audience. close
