Witnesses testified about the re-importation of prescription drugs from Canada. Supporters of re-importation claimed that, with the cost of prescription drugs high and continuing to rise, many prescription drugs were available in Canada or over the internet for a fraction of their cost in the United States. Opponents of re-importation claimed that the regulations governing prescription drugs in other countries were often much less stringent than in the U.S., and that a significant percentage of drugs that were imported or re-imported were counterfeit. close
