The forum focused on legislative policy issues which primarily impact state financial services organizations. They spoke of the different financial reform ideas that are being proposed in Congress. A key question is whether the new legislation will propose deregulation or re-regulation. They told the audience that regardless of what happens in Washington, DC, the impact is felt on “main street” by the average consumer and investor. Mr. Dugan described the current banking situation as “clearly under stress.” The panelists discussed the United State’s financial system in the context of the February proposal for reforms presented by the Treasury Department. close
