In a ceremony held in the Rotunda, the Kansas congressional delegation, former Kansas Senator Bob Dole, and others dedicated a new Kansas statue to be placed in Statuary Hall. It replaced a statue of Kansas Governor George Washington Glick with a sculpture depicting Dwight Eisenhower as a U.S. Army general. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Eisenhower’s inauguration as president.

Kansas is the first state to replace one of its statues in the U.S. Capitol Statuary Hall.

Each state is allowed two statues in Statuary Hall. close
