Professor Elshtain and Mr. Prestowitz debated the U.S. role in the world and responded to audience members' questions.

Professor Elshtain talked about her book, Just War Against Terror: The Burden of American Power in a Violent World, published by Basic Books, saying that anti-war, anti-establishment arguments are a throwback to the Vietnam era and no longer relevant in today’s post-September 11 world. Mr. Prestowitz talked about his book, Rogue Nation: American Unilateralism and the Failure of Good Intentions, published by Basic Books, arguing that America is abandoning its democratic ideals and making too many foreign policy decisions on the basis of our immediate military and economic security. close
