The senators and representatives talked about the release that day of the report on pre-September 11 intelligence. The object of the report was to discover what was known by U.S. intelligence agencies prior to the 9/11 attacks, what should have been known, what lessons should have been learned, and what changes should be made. The report criticized the FBI, CIA, the military, and other government entities for failing to share information and not acting aggressively to combat the threat posed by al-Qaida, but found that none of the agencies had any specific knowledge, such as date, methods, or identities of participants, prior to the attacks. The secrecy surrounding the report and the omission of some information from the final report released to the public was defended as necessary. Following prepared remarks, the legislators responded to questions from reporters. close
