Dr. Ofri talked about her book, Singular Intimacies: Becoming a Doctor at Bellevue, published by Beacon Press. The book is a series of essays, in which Dr. Ofri details her 10 years as a medical student, intern, and resident at the oldest public hospital in the country, New York’s Bellevue Hospital. In addition to documenting her hours of medical training, the book describes her evolution as a healer. Dr. Ofri read from her essay "Merced", in which she describes her attempt to maintain a bedside manner with a comatose woman in front of the dying woman’s family. Following her presentation, Dr. Ofri answered questions from members of the audience. close
