The guests discussed the role of vending-machine food in the overall food programs offered at schools. They also talked about the possibility of vending machines dispensing healthy snacks. Mr. Jacobson talked about the new report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest criticizing the nutritional quality of snack foods sold in school vending machines. Mr. McMahon agreed that obesity was a serious problem in America, but said vending machines often offered healthy alternatives and that removing vending machines from schools would not solve the problem. The guests responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. close
