Reports filed in the House included S. 248, to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and H. Res. 144, providing for the consideration of H.R. 7, to amend title 18, to require a waiting period before the purchase of a handgun. Several messages from the President were read, including the Agreement concerning fisheries off the coast of the United States, and the message for the National Endowment for the Arts. The House completed all debate on a motion to amend the National Trails System Act. The House voted to suspend the rules and pass H.R. 1143, to authorize a study of nationally significant places in American history, and H.R. 904, to direct the Secretary of the Interior to prepare a national landmark theme study on African American history. close
