Laton McCartney talked about his book, Across the Great Divide: Robert Stuart and the Discovery of the Oregon Trail, published by Free Press. The book chronicles the story of Robert Stuart, a young fur trader from Scotland, who located a gap in the Rocky Mountains in 1812. This gap would later be named the South Pass, and would become part of the Oregon Trail, an important wagon route that enabled westward migration in America in the nineteenth-century. Mr. McCartney also read from his book, and responded to questions from the audience. close
