Witnesses testified regarding the movement of highly-skilled, high-tech, and high-paying jobs overseas. Concern was expressed about the impact of the job losses on the U.S. economy. Companies relocated operations overseas to take advantage of lower taxes, lower prevailing wage rates, fewer regulations, and an overall lower cost of production in comparison with the United States. Witnesses suggested that U.S. industries must become more competitive in order to succeed in a global market, but blamed foreign currency manipulation for much of the problem. Some committee members suggested that taxes and regulations should be reduced to encourage companies to remain in the United States. close
