Mr. Peter Singer discussed his new book, Corporate Warriors: The Rise of the Privatized Military Industry, published by Cornell University Press. The book explores how private, specialized military firms have changed the ways in which wars are fought. The author asserts that governments are seeking out these corporations because of their cost efficiency, which sometimes comes through excessive cost cutting. Many of these companies employ former military officials as consultants and executives. However, contractors are not bound by military law and can be deployed more flexibly. There are also competing loyalties and priorities. After his presentation, the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
