Mr. Bloche talked about federal and state laws governing end-of-life decisions, focusing on the recent “right to die” case in Florida. The case centered on Terri Schiavo, who had been in a persistent vegetative state for thirteen years. Her husband and parents fought a bitter court battle over whether or not the feeding tube sustaining her should be removed. A court decision allowed the feeding tube to be removed, but Governor Bush and the Florida legislature ordered it re-inserted, sparking a debate. Mr. Bloche responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. close
