Representative Thomas, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, introduced a coalition of congressmen to announce an agreement on a new Medicare prescription drug benefit. While acknowledging that it is not a thorough reform or a perfect bill, they lauded the bill as strengthening Medicare, offering prescription drugs, and being a voluntary program that offers opportunities to choose. The bill still needed to be finalized. After their presentations, the congressmen answered questions from reporters. close
