Ron Brown, the first black chairman of a national American political party, delivered the commencement address to the 1991 graduating class of Howard University Law School. In his remarks, Mr. Brown spoke on the media’s desire to separate successful minority professionals from their ethnic and cultural backgrounds. He discussed his own experiences in earning money for his college and law school education and said educated professionals should remember the small contributions of their forbears that led to their success in American society. close
