Mr. Lewis and Ms. Willis talked about their book, A Small Nation of People: W.E.B. Du Bois and African American Portraits of Progress, published by Amistad Press. The book contains 150 photographs of middle-class African Americans, selected from a large group of pictures presented by W.E.B. Du Bois at the 1900 Paris World Fair. Essays by Mr. Lewis and Ms. Willis also appear in the book. Slides were shown throughout the presentation. The co-authors also responded to questions from the audience. Ms. Battle responded to technical questions regarding the photographs. close
