Eastern European education ministers, on a week long visit to the U.S. to examine the U.S. educational system, met with the Executive Committee of the National Governor’s Association to exchange ideas on education reforms. Issues discussed by the committee and the ministers included school funding and changes in curriculum. Minister Glebocki noted that while Poland was attempting to decentralize their educational system, the U.S. was trying to centralize theirs; Gov. Gardner quickly refuted the minister’s perception that the U.S. was centralizing its educational system. Minister Stefan spoke through an interpreter on the Rumanian education system’s difficulties and challenges. He said the goals of Rumanian education reform included a new openness in curriculums and decentralization of the system. close
