Officials spoke to reporters about the status of the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit mission. They confirmed that they had received data from the rover and were attempting to restore functionality to the space craft. A special anomaly team had been formed to investigate the problem. It was expected to take several days or weeks, but that the health of the spacecraft can be maintained that long. Graphics and pictures were shown as they discussed a recreation of the Spirit’s landing and adjustments that were being planned for the landing of Opportunity, including opening the parachute earlier. Following their remarks they answered questions from the reporters. close
